Doggie Portraits

I had a boxer as a child. Wasn’t the smartest pup on the playground but oh what a face. Beautiful. Sorta. Just like this guy.
Cochrane Ranche House

I shot a series for the Cochrane Ranche House convention facilities. Though this was shot a few years ago this picture has been used as recently as the Stampede Guide this summer.
Irony
Checked out a new hunting and fishing store that looked more like a museum. Stuffed animals everywhere. While it was drawing a lot of ooohs and ahhhs I couldn’t help but think the back drop of camouflage jackets and the light from a window instead of the sun, was a tad ironic.
Groovin’

Decidedely Jazz Danceworks knows how to get down for their annual Possessed: Funk Galactic Event. People in retro costumes rocked the dance floor to disco hits. The shoes were amazing. Where did all the platform boots come from? Surely you didn’t keep them from the 70′s thinking that dammit, they have to come back in [...]
T. Rex on the move
One of my favorite effects is “pop and drag”. It involves using your flash but leaving your shutter open a bit longer. The surreal effect is a combination of the flash freezing the object in the frame but also providing a bit of motion blur. I love images that seem to move or that make [...]
homeless series

Two discarded sofas in the weirdest of places – beside a walking path in the middle of a green space – gave me the idea for a homeless series. Mark and I have talked about doing a series on homeless which is something we see everyday in downtown Calgary. We want to capture their stories [...]
23 floors up, police car below

The 23rd floor. Never stayed in a hotel with a balcony 23 stories up. Don’t much like heights but I sucked it up to look over the sturdy (yes I checked) barrier to enjoy the view. You could see the ocean and the ships coming into Vancouver at sunset. Beautiful. But directly below, on Denham [...]
Contrasting Elements

The image of the city church with the crows, “Murder of Crows”, was selected for the “Through A Lens: Contrasting Elements” art show in California! Besides a photo I sold at the Calgary Stampede to a couple from England, this is our first international foray in selling art. The image will have to be shipped [...]
First sale on Boundless Gallery

“At the Trough” sold the other day on the online art site Boundless Gallery. It is one of my most popular photographic prints, especially with the horse lovers at the Calgary Stampede. This is a draft horse that was playing in the water trough on a particularly hot summer day. The water drops [...]
Land on the move # 1

In camera motion blur makes for an ethereal look of a pasture near Elkwater, Alberta, Canada. Printed 20″ x 30″ o/e for art show in February.
Surreal trees

Surreal colours surrounding two trees on the prairies. This digital image is printed with pigment inks on canvas at 20″ x 30″.
Eco friendly framing
Bamboo fine art paper and environmentally friendly frames.
Exposure Photography Festival

I am trying to decide which pieces to submit to the Exposure: the Calgary/Banff Photography Festival that happens in February. This is a great photography exhibition with speakers and a number of galleries participating that I visited last year but didn’t submit anything. I’m hoping this year will be different. The deadline for submissions is [...]
